Description
With some of the most striking black foliage of any perennial grass plant, Black Beard Black Mondo Grass is darker in color, more vigorous, and a little taller than the species. It forms a dramatic arching clumps of grassy foliage 12 to 15 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide over time. No matter the light conditions the leaves are black. Clusters of bell-shaped, soft-lilac flowers rise above and contrast beautifully with the dark foliage. This easy to grow plant is ideal for use as an accent in container gardens and small garden spaces or as a groundcover or border along walkways and paths or around patios. We suggest part shade to shade avoiding direct sun in the midafternoon.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 12 to 15 inches tall and 15 to 18 inches or more wide, Black Beard Black Mondo Grass is ideal for use as an accent, grouping or border edger in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. Perfect for use as an underplanting for small trees such as Japanese maples or a groundcover under large shade trees. Also serves nicely as a solo or grassy accent in combination container gardens. A fine addition to black color theme gardens, Asian gardens, rock gardens, and nestled between boulders around the garden pond.
Suggested Spacing: 18 inches apart as groundcover
