Description

A Lilac that blooms for months instead of weeks? Yep. The Bloomerang Dark Purple Lilac displays loads of fragrant flowers in spring before taking a rest during summer and then blooming again in fall all the way to frost! The second bloom isn’t quite as much as the first, but it’s still quite showy. Its smaller size and compact, mounded form to 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide fits nicely in smaller garden spaces where its taller growing cousins won’t fit. A perfect choice for containers. Its parentage includes four different Lilac species: Syringa patula x macrophylla x meyeri x juliana. This breeding has resulted in excellent mildew resistance and heat tolerance, even here in our Georgia gardens.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a compact rounded mound 4 to 5 feet tall and wide, Bloomerang Lilac fits in smaller garden spaces than its taller growing cousins and is also a good fit for pots, planters and other containers. Bloomerang Lilacs are ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural hedge in larger landscape and flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, purple theme gardens, cut flower gardens, butterfly gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences

Bloomerang Lilacs are easy to grow in a moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade, depending on your climate. In cooler northern zones plants will grow in full sun. In southern zones 7b-8a we suggest some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of summer afternoons. Prefers a soil pH close to neutral. Add pelletized lime if your soil is extremely acid. Fertilize once, in early spring, with a light application of an organic plant food or slow-release shrub & tree fertilizer. Prune as necessary after bloom in spring.

The bushes arrived in perfect condition! I followed the directions and unwrapped them and they look great! Of course, I’m in Vermont so I can’t plant this until I can dig in the ground!! I have them in my entryway where it’s cool and dark. I’ll start bringing them out when it starts warming up so they can acclimate. But they look good! They have leaves that look healthy! My 2 plants arrived healthy and beautiful. They are growing well. However, I just had to prune back some bare stems that had been stripped clean by deer! When they are older and tougher maybe they will have deer resistance. I guess the young tender foliage was just too tempting for deer! I have now sprayed them with Deer Stopper. You probably should remover the “Deer Resistance” feature from your description of Bloomerang Dark Purple Lilac.———————————We will take that into consideration. Try Milorganite, it’s an organic fertilizer and they hate the smell. You should be able to get it at your local hardware store or garden center. And plants love it! This plant is beautiful. I was really surprised at how large this lilac was when it arrived. It’s been in the ground for couple of weeks and it’s looking great so far. The lilac plant arrived looking good. I liked being able to track the shipping. We have had too much rain lately so I had to wait another week before planting. In the meantime, buds began to appear.
