Description
A very fast grower and fine choice for a quick privacy screen, the Blue Ice Cypress is one of the most eye-catching evergreen trees in our gardens. The stunning silvery-blue foliage provides outstanding color and texture that contrasts nicely with almost any other type of plant. As mentioned, a perfect choice for a privacy screen and also nice on the corners to frame tall homes. Can also be sheared to form an outdoor Christmas tree. Exceptionally low maintenance, drought tolerant and disease and insect resistant. Deer turn their nose up to it.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in an upright conical form 20 to 30 feet tall and 8-12 feet wide, the Blue Ice Cypress is ideal for use in evergreen privacy screen plantings, where it can be used solo or mixed with other evergreens to create a pleasing effect. It is also useful to frame in the corners of tall homes and other buildings or as a specimen or background anywhere in sunny landscape borders. A fine addition to conifer gardens, blue theme gardens, bird gardens, wildlife gardens and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs). Perfect for an outdoor Christmas tree!
Suggested Spacing: 8 to 10 feet apart for privacy screen plantings; 16 feet or more for space between trees
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Arizona Cypress variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. That saod, it will need a well-lit indoor location.
Growing Preferences
The Blue Ice Cypress is tolerant of a wide range of soils, even clay, preferring a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and plenty of sunshine. Will tolerate light shade, but plants in full to mostly sun are much fuller. Minimal to no maintenance, no pruning necessary to keep its dense, naturally conical form. Exceptionally drought tolerant when established.

Blue ice is a beautiful little tree. It arrived in excellent condition. 3 gallon was about 3-4 ft tall. Hoping it will survive the partial shade in my yard. Very happy with my “Ice baby” …isn’t he the cutest, healthiest looking tree? My husband is a garden snob and will only by trees from local nurseries where he can inspect them but even he said he’s impressed with the quality of Wilson Brothers Gardens trees and shrubs and impressed with the care taken in packing and shipping their plants.———————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Three Arizona Cypress trees I ordered arrived promptly and were well protected by the Wilson shipping dept. Trucked all the way from Georgia to the Grand Canyon state arriving in excellent condition. Planted now and happy to be in their namesake State! ——————— WBG Reply: Hi Stephen – Thanks so much for your review of the Blue Ice Arizona Cypress and we hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy the ones in our gardens for years to come. The blue foliage provides very nice color and contrast…and they grow fast! They should be especially happy there in Arizona:-) Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can do for you. I have the Arizona Cypress, which I think some on the east coast call the Carolina Sapphire Cypress?…but this blue one definitely has it beat on color. I spoke with Brent via email and he assured me the Blue Ice retains its vibrant blue color as it gets older. Glad I bought these, they will work perfectly in my privacy screen next to some Hollywood junipers. Very satisfied with my experience with Wilson Bros ———————— WBG Reply: Hi Josh – Thanks so much for taking the time to provide your review and for the compliments. It’s been our pleasure to serve you. To answer your question, yes, Carolina and Arizona Cypress are the same tree. The ‘Blue Ice’ Cypress is the same species but maintains very bright blue foliage year round and grows just as fast and very dense. The blue color should contrast very nicely with the darker green of the Hollywood Juniper. Hope you enjoy the Blue Ice Cypress for years to come. Let us know if there’s ever anything else we can help you with. We’re at your service! – Brent | Wilson Bros Gardens.
