Description
‘Candy Stripe’ Creeping Phlox, also known as moss phlox, moss pink, thrift or mountain phlox, is a delightful low-growing and spreading perennial plant that produces a 2 to 5-inch carpet of green, evergreen spruce-like foliage which is smothered in early to mid spring (depending on your location) with 3/4-inch wide, 5-petaled white flowers with a prominent pink stripe down each petal. We have this one and other creeping Phlox varieties growing on a steep embankment at the front of our property. It’s one of those plants that we can’t wait to see it start blooming in late winter, heralding the arrival of spring.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 2 to 5 inches tall and spreading 24 inches wide, Candy Stripe Creeping is ideal for use as a low edger or mass planting in landscape and perennial borders, home foundation plantings, on embankments, slopes or hillsides, or to slightly drape over stone walls. Its small size makes it a perfect fit for smaller garden spaces or as a soil cover in container gardens. A very nice addition to rock gardens. Flowering bulbs will pop right through it in spring and summer!
Suggested Spacing: 15-18 inches apart for mass plantings; 36 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Candy Stripe Creeping Phlox is exceptionally easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil and in sandy or gravely soils, tolerating hot, dry exposures better than most other Phlox species. As with so many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Though plants will tolerate part shade, the best flowering is in full to mostly sun.
