Description
We’ve grown a LOT of Heuchera varieties in our gardens over the years and Caramel is one that stands out among the best of the best! Caramel is vigorous, sturdy and long-lived, forming a large clump featuring uniquely colored, lobed, maple-like leaves that emerge a golden apricot that deepens to amber and peach as the season progresses. Tiny, light pink flowers atop thin stems rise to 18 inches above mounds. The Heuchera villosa bloodlines in this hybrid contribute a velvety leaf surface, later flowering habit, and exceptional heat and humidity tolerance.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a mound to about 8 inches tall and 20 inches wide, Caramel Heuchera is ideal for use in landscape or perennial garden borders, rock gardens or open woodland gardens massed as a groundcover, as a specimen or in groupings in smaller garden spaces, or as a colorful border along paths or walkways. Also very nice as a stand alone or mixed with other plants and flowers in container gardens. A fine addition to Heuchera gardens, woodland gardens, rock gardens and perennial shade gardens.
In garden beds or containers, we like to combine Heuchera plants with other Heuchera or Heucherella varieties, hosta lilies, perennial ferns and other part shade to shade loving plants and trees.
Suggested Spacing: 15-18 inches apart for mass plantings; 36 inches or more apart for space between plants

Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4, where this Heuchera is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
When planted right, and in the right spot Heuchera is easy to grow.
Sun Preference: Though Heuchera tolerate full sun in cooler zones north of USDA Zone 7 they appreciate some afternoon shade in USDA Zones 7-9. If grown in full sun, consistent moisture is very important. Scorch and general foliage decline may occur if soils are allowed to dry out.
Soil Preferences: Heuchera prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. In the warmer climates of the southern zones plants are often evergreen, retaining nice foliage color throughout the winter season. In colder, northern zones foliage may discolor or die back over a harsh winter. Simply prune unsightly foliage away before new growth begins to emerge in late winter or early spring.

I’ve grown many different heuchera cultivars for years and killed lots of them. Caramel is just about indestructible here and believe me in the southeastern US that’s saying a lot. The plant arrived in perfect shape — full and beautiful — and hasn’t missed a beat since going in the ground. You can’t go wrong with this one!—————————————————————-We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
