Description
If you’re looking for a tall screen to block out an unwanted view, and/or for a wind and noise buffer, it doesn’t get much better than the fast-growing Green Giant Arborvitae, a very handsome, dense, upright pyramidal coniferous evergreen. Once developing its root system during the first year, you can expect rapid growth of 2 to 3 feet per year. At maturity this narrow, pyramidal growing conifer will reach 40 to 50 feet tall and 10 to 12 feet wide, standing up to snow, drought and wind! We suggest a spacing of 7 to 8 feet apart.

Landscape & Garden Uses
With it’s tall stature up to 50 feet tall over time, and its and handsome evergreen foliage, Green Giant Arborvitae is ideal for use as a privacy screen to block unwanted views, dampen sound, and to buffer wind. Green Giant can also be useful as a stand alone specimen or to frame corners of tall buildings or other structures. It’s the perfect choice for a narrow hedge or screen or to line a driveway or property line. It also grows well in pots and other containers where it serves as a unique centerpiece with foliage that contrasts nicely with flowers and other plants. A fine addition to conifer gardens, formal gardens, rock gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Spacing: 10′ apart for solid hedge; 15′ apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Green Giant Arborvitae is very easy to grow in moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun. It requires no pruning and is quite drought tolerant when established. To facilitate faster but steady growth, fertilize in spring and again in late summer with a well-balanced shrub and tree type fertilizer. Avoid planting underneath low powerlines. Deer turn their noses up to Arborvitae.
