Description
‘Magenta Chiffon’ is the newest addition to the best selling Chiffon Rose of Sharon series. It has the same anemone-like double flowers and upright, graceful habit as its siblings but with deeply saturated vibrant magenta flowers. Can be grown as a shrub or lower branches removed to form an attractive and beautiful small specimen tree. This wonderful variety has performed extremely well in our gardens here in Zone 8a of mid-Georgia.
Easy to grow and with little to no maintenance, we think Rose of Sharon, also known as Althea or Hibiscus, are one of the most underrated and under-used flowering ornamental plants in existence. These wonderful large shrubs or small trees produce loads of large, beautiful flowers throughout much of the summer that both you and the butterflies and hummingbirds will enjoy. So, make sure to plant yours where you can watch these winged beauties swarm the flowers throughout summer.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and about 6 to 7 feet wide, the Magenta Chiffon Rose of Sharon can be grown as a shrub or small tree. As a shrub it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a colorful hedge in sunny landscape borders. As this rose of sharon grows lower branches can be removed to form a small tree that serves well as a colorful focal point specimen for use in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to pink theme gardens, hummingbird gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants
