Description
‘Midnight Magic’ is a truly spectacular mid-size Crape Myrtle from the First Editions Magic series. Every variety in this series was selected for its ability to produce masses of blooms in rich, true colors…and Midnight Magic doesn’t disappoint. It will blow you and any who see it away with its abundant, large clusters of crinkled, dark pink flowers and super dark purple maroon foliage that is very close to black. If the first round of flowers are deadheaded Midnight Magic will produce another flush of flowers late summer through mid-fall. Excellent leaf spot and mildew resistance makes this a problem-free beauty in the landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 5 to 6 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide, the Midnight Magic Crape Myrtle is ideal for use as an accent or specimen in small garden spaces and home foundation plantings, or in groupings or as a colorful hedge in landscape borders. Its smaller size also lends well for use in pots, planters and other containers. Whether planted as a specimen or in groupings, this is one plant that is sure to stand out in the landscape. A fine addition to pink theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for hedge; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Midnight Magic Crape Myrtle is very easy to grow. It is not picky about soil type provided the soil is well-drained. Full sun is preferred and results in heavier flower production. Light shade is tolerated but flowering will be diminished in more shade. Has shown excellent resistance to powdery mildew.
