Description
Featuring an abundance of bold, double flowers with white petals surrounding a dark red throat from mid summer to early fall, this is the single-trunk tree form version of the Morning Star Rose of Sharon, one of the best and strongest growing Hibsicus syriacus we’ve grown in our gardens. Plant this one and the hummingbirds will come. Forest green, lobed leaves are attractive throughout the season on what can be grown as a shrub or small tree with an upright spreading habit of growth.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 10 to 12 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Morning Star Rose of Sharon Tree is ideal for use as a specimen in sunny landscape and flowering shrub borders and home foundation plantings. A fine addition to hummingbird gardens, cottage gardens and white theme gardens.
Growing Preferences
Rose of Sharon are easy to grow and maintain in a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and plenty of sunshine. Some shade will be tolerated but flowering won’t be as heavy and plants may be leggier and tend to flop. Except to remove a stray or broken branch, Rose of Sharon require little or no pruning. Plants are quite drought tolerant when established.
