Description
A beautiful and compact evergreen flowering shrub, the ‘Pearlific’ Viburnum produces abundant rounded clusters of pink buds that open to fragrant pearl-white flowers in spring. The flowers stand out beautifully against the mound of glossy, dark green foliage and are followed by attractive red berries that ripen to a blue-black color, adding additional interest and appeal in the landscape.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing quickly to 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, Pearlific Viburnum is a new evergreen selection ideal for use as an accent, grouped or massed, or in straight or staggered rows in home foundation plantings and landscape and flowering shrub borders. A splendid addition to cut flower, fragrance gardens and white theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 4.5 feet apart for solid hedges; 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Viburnum is not winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Pearlific Viburnum is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils. It prefers a moist but well-drained loamy soil of average fertility. As with so many other ornamental shrubs, it does not like a constantly soggy or wet soil, which can cause problems with the roots. Choose a planting site that receives full sun to part shade. For best flowering, at least 5 hours of direct sunlight per day is suggested. Responds very well to pruning for shaping and size control. Prune as needed immediately after flowering.
