Description

A standout that repeat blooms from spring all the way to frost in the late fall, the ‘Pinball Wizard’ Dianthus features fancy and spicy fragrant pinball-size double flowers of soft pink to white striped in red. The clove scented flowers are perched atop non-flopping sturdy stems that rise above a neat and compact mound of handsome dark silver blue foliage that is a perfect compliment to the flowers. This beauty holds up to both heat and cold thriving in USDA Zones 5 to 9. An essential cottage, cutting or rock garden addition and perfect in garden beds or patio pots. Remains evergreen in warmer winter regions.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a dense mound about 12 to 14 inches tall and wide, the Pinball Wizard Dianthus is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or in mass plantings in sunny landscape borders and on slopes. Also very popular for edging garden beds and paths, walkways and patios. Excellent as a solo or mixed with other plants in pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, cottage gardens, butterfly gardens, sunny perennial gardens and pink theme gardens.

Growing Preferences

Pinball Wizard Dianthus is very easy to grow in most any moist to lightly moist well-drained soil of average to low fertility and full to mostly sun. Some shade is tolerated however flowering will be diminished in too much shade. We suggest at least 5 hours of direct sunlight for best flowering and overall performance. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Spent flowers can be deadheaded to encourage new rounds of flowers from spring to frost. We feed our Dianthus in spring with an organic plant food.
