Description
One of the longest blooming and most cold hardy Crape Myrtles in our gardens, Princess Kylie is a semi-dwarf to 5 feet high and wide that’s a perfect fit in smaller garden spaces and containers where larger growing varieties won’t fit. Abundant clusters of captivating magenta-fuchsia ruffled flowers explode on the scene in early summer continuing until earl fall. The flowers are backed by handsome gray-green leaves that turn to vivid shades of orange and red in fall.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide, the Princess Kylie Crape is an ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and home foundation plantings or in groupings or as a hedge in larger landscape borders. Perfect for larger pots planters and other containers 16 inches or more in diameter.
Suggested Spacing: 3.5 to 4 feet for hedges; 8′ or for space between plants
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Crape Myrtle variety is not reliably winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Princess Kylie Crape Myrtle is easy to grow in most any well-drained moist soil of average fertility and full sun. Light shade is tolerated but flowering is diminished with more shade. Maintenance is minimal, with very little if any pruning required for plants to maintain density and a nice form. That said, spent flowers can be removed to encourage a possible second flush of flowers. A light pruning before leaves emerge in early spring can help to maintain a more compact and dense form. When established, plants are quite drought tolerant; only requiring supplemental water during prolonged dry periods during summer. As with all other crape myrtle, deer won’t touch this one!
