Description
As with the other Coneflowers in the Sombrero Series, Sombrero Baja Burgundy has super-charged bloom power featuring abundant fragrant flowers with thick and wide brilliant reddish-purple petals surrounding a dark red cone with a touch of cream in the center. From early summer to late summer butterflies and other beneficial pollinators will enjoy feeding from the flowers, and don’t forget to leave some spent flowers on the plant at the end of the bloom season as finches and other birds will feast on the seeds during fall and winter. The foliage has a nice deep green color with small gray hairs giving it a silver hue. It’s hard to imagine a sunny perennial border without Coneflowers. Butterflies love the flowers, birds love the seeds and we love the long-lasting bouquets. Coneflowers are a classic to the garden and this one will be treasured for years to come.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and wide, the Sombrero Baja Burgundy Coneflower is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces and large mixed container gardens. But where it really wows is in groupings or mass plantings in sunny landscape and woodland borders and garden beds. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, bird gardens, red theme gardens, cut flower gardens and cottage gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 18 to 20 inches apart for groupings

Growing Preferences
Sombrero Baja Burgundy Coneflower is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil in full sun or part shade. Provide at least 5 hours of direct sun for best flowering. As with many other perennial plants, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic. Heavy, dense clay soils should be amended with organic matter to improve drainage. No deadheading necessary. Feed in spring with a good flower food or organic plant food.
