Description
The most pink of any Japanese maple we’ve ever grown, Taylor Pink is a small upright tree to maybe 6 feet tall and wide sporting breathtaking salmon-pink leaves with some green and white mixed in. As the season progresses the leaves transition to more cream and green with some soft pink. Any new growth that emerges during summer is pink. Cooler temperatures in fall bring on hot red pink. A slow growing tree ideal for small garden spaces and containers. Due to the color of its leaves, Taylor Pink does not like direct afternoon sunlight, which will surely scorch them. Give it morning and/or evening sun or filtered sun or all-day dappled shade. As with all other Japanese maples, it does not like wet feet. So make sure to plant it in a well drained site or container and keep the soil moist but not wet.
Landscape & Garden Uses
To showcase its unique beauty, Taylor Pink Japanese Maple is best used in smaller garden spaces as a focal point specimen. Make sure to provide afternoon shade for this one. Container culture can extend the useful range of Japanese Maples. They are extremely easy to grow in containers, a practice taken to its most extreme form in the art of bonsai. Suggested Spacing: 8 feet or more apart for space between plants
Note: One Japanese Maple can make a landscape…that is, if you don’t overcrowd it with other trees and plants. Therefore, when choosing companions to plant under or around your Japanese Maple, make sure to select low-growing shrubs or groundcovers that won’t interfere at all with your tree.
Growing Preferences
Though delicate looking, Japanese Maples are very easy to grow.
In their natural habitat, Japanese Maples are understory trees, growing in dappled forest sunlight at the edges of woodlands. Ideally they prefer to be grown in similar conditions. Due to the color of its variegated foliage, Taylors Pink Japanese Maple does not like the hot direct afternoon sunlight. Morning sun and evening sun, or all-day dappled shade are okay. If you a looking for one that takes lots of sun there are many sun-tolerant Japanese Maple varieties.
Most any average garden soil will grow Japanese Maples. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. As with so many other ornamental plants and trees, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant your Japanese Maple in a well-drained site.
